Our Story
Tucked away in the heart of London, Yokoya invites guests into a world where Japanese tradition is honoured with every course. The restaurant is the lifelong passion of Chef Makoto Kuwaki, who began his formal training in Japan at the age of 18 to become a master of Kaiseki—the highest expression of authentic Japanese dining and a deeply seasonal culinary art.
Under Chef Kuwaki’s meticulous guidance, the multi‑course Kaiseki menu is updated monthly, with each dish reflecting decades of discipline, cultural devotion, and refined craftsmanship. Dining at Yokoya is never rushed; it is a quiet, immersive experience that celebrates the beauty of Japan’s seasons.
Chef Kuwaki’s dedication to tradition has earned him the honour of serving the Japanese Emperor and Empress, as well as several Prime Ministers. Today, he brings this heritage to London, offering both an elaborate monthly Kaiseki menu and a more relaxed option through our Seasonal Japanese Dining – A la Carte Menu, allowing guests to experience Japanese cuisine with authenticity, precision, and soul.
